Day 6 of 21: Disregarding the Fault

The Lord’s Prayer is often the first prayer that we learn as children.  I would like to bring attention to the verse where we pray that God forgives us as we forgive others.  The expectation set by the prayer is that we receive forgiveness in the same measure that we express forgiveness.

As I pray the Lord’s Prayer, I could only imagine the consequences of God forgiving me in the same measure that I have forgiven.  In the past, I call myself forgiving others, yet I would hold on to grudges in my heart.  I must admit there were times I was waiting for the perfect moment to retaliate.

I am thankful that God is willing to look beyond each one of my sins against Him.  We are fortunate that we serve a God waiting to receive us each time that we mess up.  It is because of grace that God forgives us of our sins even when we make the same mistake time and time again.  God overlooks what we have done.

As I strive to be more like God I desire to express the same grace He expresses to me towards others.  I don’t want to hold bitterness in my heart.  I can’t imagine God looking at me like I look at those who have hurt me.  I desire to be more like my Father by looking pass, the faults of people even pass the faults of those who have hurt me the most.
