Day 4 of 21: Relinquishing the Last Laugh

When someone intentionally knocks you down, you wonder how do they react? Are they sitting back and watching? Are they happy that their plan succeeded?   There will be spectators.  Individuals lurking and watching from afar to get a glimpse of how you respond to the adversity.

Unfortunate instances occur in the lives of everyone.  Even those who have been most hurtful to us will face their challenges. We could choose to get pleasure out of the misfortunes of someone who has hurt us.  We could even say things like what goes around comes around or try to bring in scripture by saying you reap what you sow.

How easy would it be for me to sit around waiting for their downfall?  And when the inevitable happens I wonder how will I react.  Would I get pleasure from seeing my persecutors hurt?  So often we wish and hope for that moment when our persecutors get what is coming to them.

I choose not to watch and wait. Jesus tells us to love our enemies and pray for our persecutors.  Instead of laughing, I will be obedient to Christ.

As a Christian, our response should not be to watch others.   While others are being reactive, we need to be proactive.  Proactive in our expression of love and support.

Today I am challenged to pray for those who have hurt me the most.  I am praying intentionally for my persecutors and their families.  I pray for their happiness and that God blesses them by giving them health and prosperity.
